Youth Justice

We’re expanding Victoria’s youth justice system to ensure serious, repeat offenders are taken off our streets.
Our tough new bail laws are working, with youth remand rates up 46 per cent year on year. Now, we’re boosting capacity to make sure dangerous young offenders are held to account and the community is kept safe.
➡️ 30 new beds will open at Malmsbury Youth Justice Centre under a new model focused on prevention and rehabilitation.
➡️ This model will provide education, job training and skills programs to help lower-risk young people turn their lives around.
➡️ It will free up space at Cherry Creek and Parkville for higher-risk offenders.
➡️ 114 new jobs will be created to staff the expanded Malmsbury facility.
This builds on our investment in 88 new youth justice beds and almost 1,000 additional adult prison beds across the system—delivering the capacity we need to keep Victorians safe.
