Beechworth Correctional Centre - 20 Years

The wonderful community of Beechworth in Northeast Victoria has proudly supported our corrections system for over 150 years, beginning with the first gold-rush era prison opening in 1860. 

This week, we marked the 20th anniversary of the current Beechworth Correctional Centre. 

This modern, minimum-security facility leads the way in rehabilitation and reintegration support. One standout initiative is its successful wildlife rescue program, which helps injured wildlife return to the bush while supporting the rehabilitation of people in custody. 

It was an honour to join family, friends, and community partners to celebrate this milestone and to present service awards to the dedicated Corrections staff — the heart and soul of this facility.
