The Northern Hospital Redvelopment

The Northern Hospital Redevelopment in Epping is a major Victorian Government health infrastructure project delivering a significant expansion of hospital services for Melbourne’s rapidly growing northern suburbs.
Backed by an investment of $813 million, the redevelopment is being delivered in two stages. Stage one has delivered a new four-storey Ambulatory Care Centre, providing dedicated space for outpatient and ambulatory services, clinical care and hospital administration.
Work is also progressing on stage two, with John Holland appointed as managing contractor to deliver a major new emergency department and inpatient unit tower fronting Cooper Street. The expansion will include a dedicated paediatric zone, a specialised mental health and alcohol and other drugs hub, an emergency observation unit, new inpatient facilities and additional car parking.
Once the full redevelopment is complete, the Northern Hospital will have almost 200 treatment spaces and capacity to treat an additional 30,000 emergency patients each year. The overall project is expected to be completed in late 2029, significantly increasing healthcare capacity for communities across Melbourne’s north.
