Melbourne Airport Rail

Melbourne Airport Rail is a major Victorian Government project that will deliver a direct rail connection between the Melbourne CBD and Melbourne Airport via Sunshine, with a new station at Keilor East. Now underway in stages, early works began in 2026 focusing on upgrading the Sunshine “superhub” and surrounding rail infrastructure, with full completion expected in the early 2030s.
A key feature of the project is the new Keilor East station, which will provide rail access to an area that has historically lacked train connectivity, servicing a large residential catchment across Keilor East, Airport West and surrounding suburbs. Once complete, the line is expected to deliver travel times of around 30 minutes from the CBD to the airport, with Keilor East positioned as a strategic middle node linking local communities to both the city and major employment centres.
