UNESCO Greek Language Day Celebration

11 February 2026 | 2 min read

This week, I had the honour of attending celebrations for the inaugural UNESCO Greek Language Day, hosted by the Greek Community of Melbourne, alongside my colleague Lee Tarlamis.

The event was a meaningful recognition of the enduring legacy of the Greek language—one that has profoundly shaped philosophy, democracy, and global culture. It was inspiring to see how this rich linguistic heritage continues to be preserved and celebrated across generations here in Victoria.

On behalf of the Victorian Government, I acknowledge and thank the Greek community for their lasting contributions to our state, and for ensuring that the Greek language remains strong, vibrant, and deeply valued within our multicultural society.
