Fitzroy Gasworks

The Fitzroy Gasworks redevelopment is a major Victorian Government project transforming a former industrial site into a vibrant new community in the heart of Fitzroy.
Led by Development Victoria, the project will deliver around 1,400 new homes, including a significant proportion of affordable housing, helping more Victorians live closer to jobs, transport and services.
Importantly, the project is already delivering for the community. The new Fitzroy High School campus is now open, alongside a state-of-the-art sports and recreation centre, providing valuable facilities for local students, families and residents.
The redevelopment will also create new open spaces, improved streetscapes and greener public areas, making the precinct more accessible, liveable and connected.
The project is progressing into its next phase, with development partners appointed and construction underway in stages from 2026. Works will continue to roll out across the site as the new neighbourhood takes shape.
Once complete, the Fitzroy Gasworks redevelopment will support a growing inner-city population while preserving the character of the area and delivering long-term benefits for the local community.
This project is a key part of the Victorian Government’s work to boost housing supply, deliver affordable homes and invest in the infrastructure communities need.
